Arlene shares from her book, “What’s in a name? It has been said a name is better than great wealth. My name is Penny, short for Penelope. Penelope is a Greek name for a bobbin worker, weaver, and faithful wife of Odysseus during the Trojan War. Not sure if my new mother knew faithfulness was one of my greatest virtues, almost to a fault. Interesting, my original owner named me Genève, meaning fair, white, and a phantom or magical being. In retrospect, my original owner nailed it. My coat is puff white, and I have been known to be quite the escape artist.
All journeys start somewhere, so when my new mommy adopted me, she renamed me Penny.
Mommy said, ‘You sure cost me a penny!’ as she picked me up and cradled me in her warm strong arms. She planted a kiss right on my nose. It tickled. My heart skipped.
