Frances Thomas's New Book, 'Eight Miles From Nowhere' Tells About a Life of Isolation and Self Sufficiency in the Pre-and Post WWII Years in Rural Texas.

Recent release "Eight Miles From Nowhere" from Covenant Books author Frances Thomas tells how, due to life's circumstance, both of her parents ended up in North Central Texas, where they met, married, reared a family and overcame adversities.

Frances Thomas, a mother, former secretary, bookkeeper, teacher and budding author, has completed her new book, “Eight Miles From Nowhere”: a narrative of life on a Texas ranch during the waning years of the Great Depression, highlighting her parents’ struggle and determination to provide their children with the basic necessities.

Frances shares, “Our ranch house had no electricity or running water. During my early childhood, Daddy erected a high platform beside the windmill, and on this was placed a galvanized water tank.  On windy days, it didn’t take long tor the tank to be filled, thus creating enough pressure to push water through a pipe that ended at our back porch and was capped with a faucet. That was as close as running water ever came to the kitchen, but it was a big help to my mother, especially on washdays.”

Published by Covenant Books of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Frances Thomas’s new book details the early years of her life on an isolated ranch without modern conveniences, as well as the coping mechanisms employed to get by and to thrive.

With both nostalgia and humor, this book recounts the limitations imposed by life in a very small community with a two-room school house, no near-by medical facilities and no telephone service within miles, but with the strength of family bonds.

Readers can purchase “Eight Miles From Nowhere” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble.
